About Us
At every level, our industries depend on knowledgeable, innovative, skilled people - and we're here to help them.
Growing NZ through people
Primary ITO is on the ground working with individuals, businesses, communities and industry. We're in high tech production facilities, on farms and orchards, in the shed and at the kitchen table, all around New Zealand. We're coaching and teaching and sharing the knowledge, building confidence, ambition and capability - with a desire to do much more than turn the wheel. We want to power up the entire engine.
Industry consultation and advocacy
Industry training is all about meeting the skill needs of our industries. To achieve this, we work with industry bodies to develop training and qualifications that align with best practice and industry expectations. We advocate on behalf of our industries to Government to ensure policy decisions support our ability to create fit-for-purpose training.
Innovative solutions and education
Our farming, fishing, horticultural and processing industries form the backbone of the economy. Our people must reflect the impeccable standards of food safety, sustainability, animal and fish welfare that society and the world expect. The Primary ITO leads the training of more than 28,000 people, across 30 primary industries.
Programme and qualification development
We develop and maintain the national standards for more than 250 qualifications across the agriculture, horticulture, food processing, seafood, equine and sports turf industries.
