Dairy Processing - Level 3
Suitable for anyone with at least 3 months experience in the industry, your people will learn and be able to demonstrate the fundamentals of dairy processing including how to carry out basic milk processing operations, complying with quality assurance requirements including hygiene and food handling requirements as well as compliance with workplace safety and environmental requirements. They'll also learn how to effectively work and communicate as a part of a team. Completion of the optional Automated Cleaning and Heat Treatment strand will also develop knowledge of automated cleaning in place and basic heat treatment requirements.

This course takes 12 months to complete and employees can start anytime.

Dairy Processing - Level 4
Ideally following the completion of Dairy Processing Level 3, your people may progress to Dairy Processing Level 4. This programme arms your employees with specific skills and knowledge aligned to a specific product/process such as cheese making, cream products, milk powder, milk protein or milk treatment. The programme also equips trainees with a variety of broader skills relevant across the industry including being able to plan and manage work priorities, analyse and convey workplace information, monitor the implementation of health and safety, quality and environmental practices and implement food safety requirements.

Dairy Processing - Level 4 in Milk Collection
A programme that has been specifically designed for Tanker operators who transport milk and associated dairy derived liquids (such as whey and permeate) from the farms and factories all over New Zealand. This programme equips your employees with specific skills and knowledge aligned to their role as Tanker Operators such as cleaning systems for cleaning milk tankers, loading & unloading milk tankers and controlling the spread of livestock risk organisms. The programme also provides trainees with a variety of broader skills relevant across the industry including being able to plan and manage work priorities, analyse and convey workplace information, monitor the implementation of health and safety, quality and environmental practices and implement food safety requirements.

Dairy Processing - Level 5
Senior operators will gain advanced technical knowledge of a specific product/process paired with higher level core skills which can be utilised to improve the overall performance of your operation. Your employees will learn to coordinate compliance for product quality, coordinate health and safety, environmental practices, product safety, plant operations and cross training to improve the competence of staff.

Primary Food Products Processing - Level 3 (Offered by Wintec)
With this programme your employees will learn to apply knowledge of legislation to comply with workplace safety, environmental and quality assurance requirements in a primary products food processing operation. They'll also learn to work within a team environment and carry out product quality implementation check operations.
Duration and start dates
This course takes 12 months to complete, comprising one 3-week and two 2-week block courses and employees can start anytime.
Qualification
New Zealand Certificate in Primary Products Food Processing (Level 3) with strands in Product Quality Implementation.

Dairy Processing - Level 6
Description: From data interpretation and technology evaluation to engineering principles and leadership capabilities - this programme will introduce senior operators to the main processes and products in dairy manufacturing and teach them a range of skills to evaluate and improve products and systems.
Duration and start dates
This course is currently delivered by Massey University or Wintec and takes 2 years to complete.

Dairy Product Process Apprenticeship
The apprenticeship provides your employees with knowledge of the key fundamentals in the dairy industry together with increased technical skills of the specific product/process the employee works in. From carrying out basic milk processing operations to complying with quality assurance programmes, food handling and hygiene practices through to planning and managing work priorities in a dairy processing operation.
Duration and start dates
This course takes 30 months to complete and employees can start anytime.

Distribution (Level 3)
Suitable for anyone with at least 3 months experience in a Distribution and/or Warehousing operation, your people will learn a number of fundamentals related to working in the operation including receiving and dispatching goods and carrying out store operations, while also developing knowledge on some key elements of being part of the dairy industry such as working and communicating effectively as part of a team and quality assurance requirements including hygiene and food safety. They will also develop their knowledge related to complying with workplace safety and environmental requirements.

Distribution (Level 4)
Ideally following on from Distribution Level 3, your people may progress to Distribution Level 4. This programme equips your people with a variety of broader skills relevant to working in the dairy industry including monitoring the implementation of health and safety and security practices, interacting with staff, management and customers as well as developing and growing skills specific to a Distribution and/or Warehousing operation including monitoring and maintaining receipt and dispatch of goods, stores operations and productivity systems.

Workplace Assessor Training
Primary ITO have set a minimum requirement that all Workplace Assessors who report results to us will hold, by 1 May 2020, Unit Standard 4098 (Use standards to assess candidate performance).
We are excited to be offering an induction, training and support package for all new Workplace Assessor’s via a Primary ITO developed online training programme.
Current Assessors, if you do not hold this standard, please plan to make sure you have achieved unit 4098 by the date so you can continue to report results.
