Rural Pest Operations - Level 3
You'll learn all about safe work practices, the impacts of pest control and how to communicate and record information. There are Animal and Pest versions of this course and it has strands in Pest Control and Pest Monitoring. If you complete the Pest Control strand you'll also learn how to prepare and use traps and toxins. The Pest Monitoring strand will teach you to prepare for and carry out transect and inspection based population monitoring. To achieve your qualification you'll also need to undertake some vehicle training.
Career opportunities
On completion you will have the skills and knowledge to be employed as a Pest Control Technician, Department of Conservation Ranger or Regional Council Biosecurity Officer.
Duration and start dates
This course takes 11 months to complete and you can start anytime.
Qualification
Depending on the strand and context of the course you take you will achieve one of the following qualifications:
- New Zealand Certificate in Pest Operations (Level 3) Rural Pest Control (Pest Animal)
- New Zealand Certificate in Pest Operations (Level 3) Rural Pest Monitoring (Pest Animal)
- New Zealand Certificate in Pest Operations (Level 3) Rural Pest Control (Pest Plant)
- New Zealand Certificate in Pest Operations (Level 3) Rural Pest Monitoring (Pest Plant)
