Food Innovation Training Trust

The Food Innovation Training Trust was established in 2010 to assist the dairy manufacturing and meat processing industries with people capability development through training and educational initiatives. The Trustees include:

  • Independent Director (current Chairperson)
  • The current Chief Executive Officers and Chairpersons of the Dairy Companies Association of New Zealand and the Meat Industry Association of New Zealand.

The Trust is administered by the Primary Industry Training Organisation. 

Grants

Applications for 2021 are now open (5 October 2020 to Monday 9 November 2020). 

To be eligible for a grant you need to be from a company that is currently operating in the dairy manufacturing, meat processing, or related industries.

Funding criteria

  • Funding is allocated evenly between the dairy manufacturing and meat processing industry companies.
  • Companies from the dairy manufacturing, meat processing and related industries are eligible to make an application to the Trust.
  • Individuals and organisations (including industry organisations directly related to the dairy manufacturing and meat processing industries e.g. NZ Institute of Food Science and Technology; or industry associations such as the Dairy Company Association of New Zealand and the Meat Industry Association of New Zealand of behalf of their respective member companies) may also apply and be considered for grants.
  • All levels of the workforce (prospective employee, new employees, general staff, technical personnel and managers) should benefit from access to grants from the trust.
  • Funds are not to be used for the benefit of person or vocational groups or in areas of business operations that were not serviced under the coverage of the New Zealand Industry Training Organisation at the time the trust was formed in 2010.

Trust purpose

The purposes of the Trust are:

a) To assist and support the NZ ITO Incorporated (now Primary ITO) in the pursuit of its charitable objects.

b) To offer, promote and advance education and training in the NZ dairy manufacturing, meat processing and related industries, and to advance its international competitiveness.

c) To enter into private arrangements with a person, company or organisation for the provision of training and educational services.

d) To promote and advance skill standards for the NZ dairy manufacturing, meat processing and related industries.

e) To develop arrangements for the delivery of industry training that will enable trainees to attain those standards.

f) To facilitate new training initiatives and regularly review the quality of existing training programmes.

g) To ensure equity of access and opportunity in all areas of its training operations.

h) To support and encourage employee participation in its industry training initiatives.

i) To liaise with employers, unions, government agencies, training providers and other interested groups on any matters relating to these objects.
