Learning support services
Pastoral Care
All trainees undertaking Primary ITO training programmes get an Individual Training Plan to allow them to learn at their own pace.
Trainees are visited on a regular basis by their Primary ITO Training Adviser who is also on-call to assist as needed.
The more intensive the learning, the more intensive our support. For example, all apprentices receive 3 face-to-face visits a year from their Primary ITO Training Adviser plus regular phone and email contact. This level of on-going support is designed to keep the trainee on-track and the employer/manager engaged.
Literacy and Numeracy
All our programmes have literacy and numeracy embedded as part of their design. Primary ITO provides tools to assess the level of workplace literacy and numeracy. A simple electronic assessment adjusted to the learner's level is used for the trainee. It is less intimidating than a paper-based system and more effective in determining the right solution for the individual. We can also introduce you to government-funded organisations that can help put an improvement plan in place.
Dyslexia Support
We have a free screening service and a programme to support people with dyslexia. We provide information and access to learning tools including reader/writer support, smart pens, speech recognition computer software and phone apps. For those that know they have dyslexia, we offer a range of ways to help them learn that are not reliant on written assignments.
Mentor Programme
We have over 400 mentors providing learning support at all levels of training. As well as literacy and numeracy assistance, our mentors help with confidence building and motivation. Located throughout NZ they work one-on-one during class and at local study nights.
Drug and Alcohol Support
We can arrange drug and alcohol counselling for people who need support and can adapt the Level 2 programmes to incorporate training on the effects of their use.
