Consistency of training a big help to farm business

8 July 2020

In the third of our series, we speak to Todd Bolton – Director of Operations at Mangamingi Station – about how Primary ITO on-farm learning adds value to his business.

“In farming today there is a large technical aspect to my workers day on the farm starting from budgeting how long a mob stays in a paddock to diagnosing an animal health issue. Training offers me consistency and increases the skill base of my whole team. And I hope this allows them to progress in their career.

Consistency of the training is a good help to keep us working in the same direction together, and as safety compliance and environment consume more of a managers time, my team needs to take up the next level on the farm and focus on the production of turning grass into dollars.

It's seems better for me to have the staff training while working so they can practice their new skills regularly and in live situations, training first then working allows for a large amount to be forgotten.”

Back in December 2015, we caught up with Todd about the value of the NZ Diploma in Agribusiness Management and how it improved his business (and profit!) – you can check it out here
