The seafood industry is a proud combination of tradition and technological innovation.
Our fisheries management is recognised as one of the most sustainable in the world, with careful monitoring of fish stock and sea life.
There’s a strong commitment to guardianship of our kai moana in a thriving, supportive industry that offers clear career pathways in a variety of businesses on and off the sea. With 26,000 people in the industry and $1.5 billion in exports, the seafood industry offers a world of opportunities at every level.
A key motivator of driving workers to learn is to provide a formal learning pathway for team members to increase their knowledge and skills, and progress their career.
To enrol into our seafood programmes, learners must be employed in the seafood sector and must engage in training via their employer. Primary ITO will work alongside each employer to establish a suitable learning pathway and delivery model tailored to organisational needs.
As of 1 July 2020, the Government will cover training fees until 31 December 2022 for training in many of our primary sector industries. Click below for more and conditions.
