Teachers & Careers Advisers
Trades Academy
The Primary ITO Trades Academy is a secondary-tertiary programme (STP) designed to provide a broad range of learning opportunities for senior secondary students motivated by a career in the primary industries to ensure they stay engaged in education for longer. It is based on a partnership between schools and the Primary ITO and delivers:
- a coherent NCEA level 2 (or equivalent) qualification; and
- a programme which leads to the NZ Certificate in Primary Industry Skills (Level 2)
The Trades Academy Primary Industry Skills (Level 2) programme of study is delivered by all schools involved in the Trade Academy. The programme aims to ensure that at the end of the two years of study, learners have a combination of practical skills and theoretical knowledge that will enable them to continue to make informed choices about their career options in the primary industry. The programme provides learners with transferable skills in literacy and numeracy and instils work-ready skills through practical training opportunities in realistic working environments.
