Coleridge Downs investing in training

5 October 2020

In the next edition of our series, we speak with General Manager Tony Plunkett at Coleridge Downs Cadet Farm about how on-farm learning adds value to the business.

“Coleridge Downs Training Farm has been using Primary ITO to deliver Level 3 and 4 Qualifications to its 6 Cadets for the last 3 years. Over this time, we have found Primary ITO to be very supportive, especially Rachael (our Primary ITO Sector Manager), who ‘steps outside the square’ to accommodate us. She is always happy to rearrange things, to suit us with what's happening on the farm. Likewise, Sharon Watson our Training Adviser is very approachable and has a great rapport with our Cadets, setting goals and motivate them to achieve.

The Primary ITO course work is relative and involves real scenarios, in use out on the farm. The book like format is straight forward and achievable, which helps with Cadet progress. We have found the practical training we offer out in the field is further enhanced by the theory component of the Primary ITO courses.

We monitor Cadet progress closely, and work hard to ensure a thorough and robust level of learning across all areas, which also ensures our Cadets are prepared and qualified when they enter the workforce, after completing their Cadetship with us.”

As of 1 July 2020, the Government will cover training fees until 31 December 2022. Full details including eligible programmes can be found here. You can also view all Primary ITO sheep, beef and deer qualifications here.
