Cyclone Gabrielle Update

20 February 2023

Aroha atu aroha mai
Paying attention to things that matter the most

The recent weather events have been incredibly challenging  for our employers, learners and Primary ITO staff throughout the North Island. The devastation to businesses, homes and livelihoods has been heart-breaking to see.

We are relieved to have heard from all Primary ITO staff in affected areas as of Sunday. While we seem to have been spared the worst, some of our people - like many others - are still without power, water, and have extensive property damage.

We know that many of our employers and their staff have an incredibly challenging time ahead of them with a massive clean-up required. We are thinking of all of those impacted and are currently pulling together a plan on how we can provide on-going support.

As the recovery goes on, we’ll no doubt need to adjust (again) to different ways of working for people unable to simply get in the car and go where they need to be. Our colleagues across Te Pūkenga are also considering how we can add our collective strength to the recovery. We can expect to hear more about that in coming weeks.

If you are an employer or learner wanting to know whether there is any impact to your training in the affected regions, please get in touch with your main Primary ITO contact person. If you are unable to get through, call 0800 20 80 20.

As we confirm options on how we can best support our learners and employers, we will share more. For now, aroha atu aroha mai we are here to help.

Kia kaha to you all.
