This micro-credential is suited for Farm Assistants, who want to develop their skills and knowledge in dairy farming.

Topics covered include:

  • Livestock feed demand during the season and impacts on production

  • Identification of New Zealand pasture species

  • Grazing managements methods

  • Principles of feed budgeting and nutritional value of feed and digestibility

  • Introduction to pasture management and soil management, including soil health and fertility

  • Fundamental of water supply systems.

This micro-credential takes 5 months to complete.

Learners are required to attend 6 workshop days.

Learning outcomes

Graduates will be able to:

  • calculate feed demand

  • assist with feeding and supplying water to livestock

  • describe pasture and soil management practices.
