$6K for businesses with new apprentices a welcome boost – Andrea Leslie
11 October 2024
The announcement from the Government this week that the Apprenticeship Boost will continue in 2025 for most of our industries is welcome news for employers looking to take on, train and retain new workers.
We’d always like more support for employers who need it but at a time when cost pressures are high, having $500 a month paid by Work and Income for a first-year apprentice could mean the difference between taking one on and not.
Most of the sectors Primary ITO works with – including agriculture, horticulture, viticulture, manufacturing and others – are covered.

The Apprenticeship Boost was set up in Covid times, encouraging businesses to take on and retain workers despite challenging economic conditions, and this week’s announcement revealed that most of our sectors would be included in 2025.
One of the key benefits of on-the-job training is that it can be applied immediately. New apprentices can add value to their employers more quickly than untrained workers – that’s part of why we think this first-year up-to $6000 Apprenticeship Boost does make a difference. It takes a commitment to training but comes with some financial support.
The workplace is the classroom of the future. Whether it’s a farm, orchard, processing facility, garden or even the high seas, Primary ITO’s team can help grow the knowledge people need to be successful.
