Summary
This brand-new short course is made up of two face to face workshops and is suitable for:
- Farm Assistants
- Relief Milkers
- Experienced milkers who want to develop or refresh their knowledge in milking and dairy plant hygiene.
This programme starts anytime and is offered in most regions nationally. If there are no convenient face-to-face classes near you, please still register you/your staff’s interest as we will organise classes based on interest and also have some zoom options available.
Learning Outcomes
During the workshops you’ll hear from your tutor about:
- Local and global reasons for excellent milk quality
- Preventing contaminants in milk and understanding withholding periods
- Milk quality testing and standards
- Understanding the milking plant and the function of the components
- The purpose of cleaning chemicals and the principles of effective plant washing
- Milk cooling systems and dealing with milk unsuitable for collection
- Teat-health and how to detect both clinical and sub-clinical mastitis
- Reading a tanker docket.
Graduates of this course will be able to:
- Describe and report on milking problems and the risks to on-farm milk quality
- Describe how to prevent and implement solutions to milk quality problems.
Please note: this short course differs from standard Primary ITO training programmes and is a non-formal course. Therefore learners are not required to complete an assessment, and will be awarded a certificate of attendance once they have completed this course.
