New To Industry Training
This recently redeveloped programme sets learners up with the foundational knowledge and skills required to be safe and confidently undertake their role. This is an ideal qualification for new team members with a natural alignment to induction programmes.
For learners, this is a great first step before entering into an apprenticeship.

Learning Outcomes
The Level 3 Landscape Construction programme is for those who are new to the industry to set them up with the essentials they need to be successful in their role.
This training is also available as a limited credit programme (LCP) with a duration of 4 months. LCPs are customisable and let you choose the units relevant to your workplace. An LCP can be a great introduction for new staff before committing to a full certificate or apprenticeship. For more information contact us to be connected with a Training Adviser.
Learners can complete the certificate or LCP as part of the New Zealand Apprenticeship pathway.
You’ll learn to:
Work as an effective team member using a range of effective communication and interpersonal skills and apply safe work practices. Apply knowledge of site requirements for hard and soft landscaping and carry out routine tasks associated with implementing landscape projects. Topics include:
- Assisting with the site set up.
- Understanding materials required, preparing an order of materials for timber landscape features and constructing these features.
- Identifying the physical characteristics, and range of woody stemmed plants, select and plant, plants and applying mulches.
- Understanding of water flow and drainage systems, and preparing and laying drainage elements.
- Operating and maintaining power tools and small machinery used.
- Understanding the use of concrete and reinforcing and laying a range of hard surfaces.
- Identifying and sowing turfgrass seed or laying turf areas.
Duration: 13 months

Learning Outcomes
The Level 4 Landscape Construction programme is for learners who would like to extend their technical knowledge, take on more responsibility and have the potential to move into a role supervising staff.
You’ll learn to:
Supervise and provide instruction to staff using a range of effective communication and interpersonal skills. Apply knowledge of hard and soft landscaping and site-specific requirements to schedule site activities and construct a landscape from plans. Topics include:
- Plan and construct timber features.
- Prepare for and lay a range of hard surfaces.
- Prepare for construction of a landscape design from drawings.
- Determine, and supervise the implementation of, earthwork requirements for a project.
- Develop, monitor and evaluate a workflow programme for landscape site work.
- Additional optional topics are also available.

Vehicle & Chainsaw Training

4098 Assessor Training
To become a Primary ITO assessor, you must hold Unit Standard 4098 – "Use standards to assess candidate performance".
To help you understand your responsibilities as a registered assessor and improve the quality of your assessments, we offer the following online 4098 training course through Primary ITO.
This Tutor-led course (comprising of two sessions) will take you through the principles of assessment followed by practical requirements for you to complete workplace assessment(s) to meet the full requirements to achieve this unit standard.
