Primary ITO learners shine at NZDIA regional finals

20 April 2026

Primary ITO learners have won numerous awards at the New Zealand Dairy Industry Awards (NZDIA) regional finals held across the country over the last few months.

More than 30 current or former learners picked up regional awards including Dairy Trainee of the Year (first, second or third place), Dairy Manager of the Year, and other merit awards recognising leadership, livestock management, pasture and feed management, and emerging talent.

Their success highlights the value of Primary ITO training alongside their hard work and willingness to put themselves forward, with the support of their Training Advisers, employers, whānau and friends.

Ross Harnden-Taylor, Delivery Manager (North Island) says, “it is always really cool to see Primary ITO learners and former learners win at the Dairy Industry awards across the regions, including, in some cases first, second and third in a category.

“Our Training Advisers put in so much time and effort into supporting their learners, and I know the pride they have when their learners do well in these awards, which can even include just entering!”

Jo Syme, Delivery Manager (South Island) says, “It was fantastic to celebrate the success within our industry, where the dedication and hard work is recognised - not only of the competitors, but also of those who have supported, nurtured, and contributed to their growth and achievements. The event honours the collective effort behind the awards.  It was fantastic to have so many of our team there to join the celebrations.”

Jo adds, “I wish all competitors the very best of luck at the national competition. It is inspiring to see enthusiastic people celebrating success and striving to excel in the dairy industry.”

The National Awards event takes place on Saturday 9 May, in Rotorua.
