The new STAR course provides work-ready skills covering the safe use of a chainsaw, with all safety gear and chainsaw equipment provided.
Ten students took part in several sessions led by experienced Trades Academy tutors, learning a mix of theory and hands-on practical skills with a strong focus on safety.
Assistant Principal Charlie Menzies says the school was pleased to give their students the opportunity to gain new skills in a safe, controlled environment.
Trades Academy Team Leader Shane Boderick says the course was a great success.
“Schools have been asking us for this type of training. We were pleased to offer it to Dannevirke High School first, to students who will make good use of their new skills.”
(STAR) The Secondary-Tertiary Alignment Resource funding helps to support students transitioning to further education, training, or employment. Schools can utilise this fund to provide meaningful learning experiences for students, providing them with work-ready skills to prepare them for their future.
Primary ITO Trades Academy has worked with Dannevirke High School since 2021, with Year 11-13 agriculture students spending one or two days a week learning from experienced Trades Academy tutors and farmers in a mix of classroom and on-farm learning.
