Wool Training Back on the Boards
2 April 2025
Elite Wool Industry Training Limited, in partnership with Primary ITO, is pleased to announce the return of formal qualifications to the wool industry.
After a long hiatus, the industry now has access to structured training programmes designed to meet modern needs.
As the starting point, the Shearing Essentials – Junior (Micro-credential) course will open for enrolment mid-April. This programme is tailored for individuals currently employed in the shearing industry who wish to further develop their skills. The course covers critical topics such as:
- Health and Safety in the Industry
- Shearing Equipment and maintenance
- Sheep Handling
- Shearing of crossbred wool
- Identification of wool contaminants
Throughout the course, there will be an overarching emphasis on animal welfare, ensuring best practices are maintained.
Tom Wilson, Director of Elite Wool Industry Training Ltd, commented: “After a long period without formal funding, this course will enable trainees to gain credits and reduce fees without altering too much of our course content or delivery. The benefits will span from farmers to end users.”
Andrea Leslie, Executive Director at Primary ITO, echoed this sentiment: “We’ve been working for several years to establish a programme and model of delivery that genuinely meets the needs of the industry. Starting with this programme, we anticipate more initiatives will follow.”
