This micro-credential is suited for Farm Assistants, who want to develop their skills and knowledge in dairy farming.

Topics covered include:

  • Nutritional value of milk, quality milk supply and preventing contaminants

  • Understanding the milking plant and the function of the milking components

  • Milk quality testing and standards

  • Milk quality post calving, mastitis, treating teat disorders and unsuitable milk.

This micro-credential takes 5 months to complete.

Learners are required to attend 3 workshop days.

Learning outcomes

Graduates will be able to:

  • assist with milking and report milking problems

  • assist with the operation of a dairy farm

  • describe the risks to on-farm milk quality

  • assist with implementing solutions to milk quality problems.
