Learners must be employed in the sector, have completed the New Zealand Certificate in Primary Industry Skills and/or had at least one year on-farm.

Summary

Suitable for Shepherds, this apprenticeship provides learners with personal mentoring and support from their Primary ITO Training Adviser who will meet with them, and their employer, regularly throughout the year to help set goals and review  progress.  

Learning outcomes


Level 3 topics include: 

  • Livestock Feed Supply and Demand  
  • Health, Wellbeing and Biosecurity  
  • Mating, Parturition and Young Stock


Additional elective topics include:

  • Fencing
  • Assisting with maintaining machinery
  • Care for and handle farm working animals

 
Level 4 topics include:

  • Farm Environment Planning
  • Feeding, Pastoral Production Systems and Benchmarking
  • Maintenance and Agribusiness Activities
  • Health, Mating and Parturition Management
  • Production Plan


The first topic to start will depend on the season. Graduates will be capable of working under limited supervision with responsibility for your duties and work outcomes.
