Summary
This programme provides the commercial fishing sector with graduates who can work as experienced commercial fishing operators involved in commercial fishing operations including fish handling in an in-shore or deep-water environment.
Topics covered include:
Year One
- Comply with hygiene, food safety and workplace safety requirements relating to commercial fishing, and fish and fish product handling activities.
- Communicate and interact effectively with team members and colleagues in a commercial fishing operation.
- Carry out routine commercial wet fish, frozen fish and shellfish harvesting operations and post-harvest wet fish, frozen fish, and shellfish handling.
Year Two
- Implement and monitor staff work routines and legislative compliance, in a commercial fishing operation, and fish and fish product handling, in an in-shore or deep-water environment.
- Implement and monitor commercial fishing operations and post-harvest fish and fish product handling in an in-shore or deep-water environment in either a Leading Hand/Senior Crew or Factory Technician Context.
Learning outcomes
Graduates will be capable of implementing and monitoring staff work routines, complying with hygiene, food safety and workplace safety requirements while communicating and interacting effectively with team members.
