This programme is aimed at driver/trainers, drivers and apprentice jockeys.
Learning outcomes
The programme covers topics as outlined below.
Implement and monitor:
- breaking and gating a Standardbred horse to harness
- gear up and drive Standardbreds at workouts, trials
- gear up and drive a Standardbred on raceday
- gear up and ride Thoroughbreds for barrier practice, jumpouts and trials
- gear up and ride a Thoroughbred on raceday.
Knowledge of:
- equine nutrition
- equine conformation and physiology
- routine care of horses in training
- the racing industry judicial system
- optimum personal health for racing
- managing personal finances for racing purposes
- raceday procedures.
