Summary

Designed for learners who may have some general experience in the wine growing industry, including seasonal workers, who want to develop their skills and knowledge in viticulture.

Learners will explore more of the detail and science around steering a crop through to a healthy harvest, be hands on, learning how to safely use production machinery, spot diseases and pests and how to give and get the best through great teamwork.

Learners can complete this programme as the first year of a NZ Apprenticeship.

This programme takes 13 months to complete and learners can start anytime.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course graduates will be able to:

  • work and communicate with a team and apply safe work practices
  • describe the NZ wine industry and common wines
  • assist with technical viticultural activities
  • carry out seasonal growing activities, such as:
    • pruning
    • canopy maintenance
    • harvest operations
    • planting
  • maintain infrastructure and trellis systems
  • operate and maintain vineyard equipment
  • understand agrichemical requirements.
